When we moved from California to Zürich with our three children, we searched for a school that was both future-facing and academically rich. We found many strengths across local options, yet not the single place that combined the depth, creativity, and personalization we imagined.
Switzerland is rightly known for academic excellence. We’re inspired by that tradition and by newer approaches that celebrate curiosity, projects, and student agency. Our goal is to weave these strands together: rigor and joy, mastery and choice.
We envisioned a school that is engaging and deep, student-centered and rewarding, designed to give kids the tools, habits, and mindsets to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
Having founded innovative schools elsewhere including a leading project-based school in the US, we chose to build that vision here. Lumos is a gift for our own children, and we hope for yours too.
Many schools claim to be student-centered or innovative or future-ready. Here’s what sets Lumos School apart:
and intentional
We’ll never be large. Staying small lets us know every child deeply, adapt quickly, and carefully curate a community of families aligned with our mission.
**
Many schools force a tradeoff between joyful, engaging learning and academic depth. We refuse it. We believe learning can be personalized, engaging and rigorous.
at the core
We design everything around practices proven to make learning stick: retrieval, spacing, productive struggle, targeted feedback, self-reflection.
